What Is Automated Employment Decision Tool (AEDT)?
As defined by NYC Local Law 144, an AEDT is any computational process derived from machine learning, statistical modeling, data analytics, or artificial intelligence that issues a simplified output (score, classification, recommendation) used to substantially assist or replace discretionary decision-making for employment decisions. This includes resume screening tools, AI-powered interviews, candidate ranking systems, and automated assessment platforms. AEDTs must undergo annual independent bias audits under LL144.
