What is an AEDT bias audit?
An AEDT (Automated Employment Decision Tool) bias audit is an independent statistical analysis that tests whether an AI hiring tool discriminates against protected groups. Required by NYC Local Law 144, the audit compares selection rates across demographic categories (race, ethnicity, sex) using the 4/5ths rule and statistical significance tests.
The audit examines each stage of the hiring pipeline — application screening, assessment scoring, interview advancement, and offer decisions — to identify where AI tools may be causing disparate impact.
A qualified independent auditor must conduct the analysis using at least one year of historical hiring data (or test data if historical data is unavailable). The results must be publicly posted on the employer's website.
OnHirely automates this analysis: upload your candidate pipeline data, and we generate a comprehensive bias audit report in minutes.
